Canadian Bank Student Lines of Credit

Back to Formal Forms Homepage

Student lines of credit from major Canadian financial institutions are provided below. Such financial institutions include the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust, the Bank of Montreal (BMO), and Alberta Treasury Branch (ATB). Post-secondary students in Canada may also be eligible for government student loans and grants.

The rules for student lines of credit are typically similar to those for other lines of credit offered by financial institutions. The applicant is usually required to make regular interest payments even while the applicant is going to school. In this way, student lines of credit differ from most government student loans in which interest becomes payable once the applicant has stopped being a full time student. As with other types of lines of credit, interest on student lines of credit is only payable on funds that have actually been borrowed, not on the maximum amount listed for the line of credit, unless the full amount on the line of credit has in fact been borrowed.
